Poverty raises heart disease risk

Younger Scots from deprived backgrounds are six times more likely to die from heart disease than their better off contemporaries, new research has found. A study found that smoking and unhealthy diet are major contributors to the prevalence of heart problems among those aged 35-44 from poorer areas. While the number of deaths from heart disease in Scotland is falling, the decline is slowing among Scots in this section of the population.
