WORKS minister Eng. John Nasasira has urged Church leaders and Christians to start up self-sustaining projects to fight poverty and to foster development.Nasasira, who is also the MP for Kazo in Kiruhura district, gave the advice while opening St. Mark’s Church of Uganda in Bugarihe, Kazo.

“What destroys churches is when they lack funds to cater for priests and other development activities,” he said.“All Christians should join hands and dedicate time to contribute for the development of the Church by starting income generating projects,”

“Churches and schools have a big role to play in achieving government programmes of development like the NAADS and Bonna Bagaggawale (Prosperity- for-All),” he added.Nasasira said he would start an illustration farm in the constituency where farmers would be equipped with knowledge on modern farming.

The families of Nasasira and Gideon Mwesigye, the secretary of the Uganda Human Rights Commission, constructed the church in memory of their parents, Esau and Julia Mono and Yeremia and Ruth Kagyendegura respectively.

The Bishop of North Ankole Diocese, the Rt. Rev. John Muhanguzi, opened the church and about sh3m was raised in the thanks-giving service. He urged Christians to dedicate their time to serving God and focus on development.
