Poverty and hunger forced a father to throw his four children into the Phuleli River near Hyderabad, Sindh province’s second largest city, a private cable TV reported on Tuesday. Police and neighbours identified the father as Javed Shah and told the media the father of four children took the girls and the lone son on the pretext of an outing and threw them into the river on Sunday night. Bodies of the children were found the next day and were taken to the Civil Hospital for the autopsy.
Mother of the children reported to a nearby police station for the missing children and then police arrested the father, who confessed crime claiming that he could not provide them food and shelter. He was sent to the Central Jail and the incident was being interrogated by police.
Deceased children included three daughters Dhanu, 8, Neha 6, Kainat 4 and a three year old son Ali. Incidents of people selling their children or taking their lives and their off springs have become daily occurrence in the country owing to poverty and unemployment.c
